Comenius meeting in Germany

Our school is one of the many schools that are a part of the Comenius Project. This project consists of an exchange of students, all from other European schools, and it is a way of enriching our culture, our way of speaking (mostly English) and a way of making new friends. Our school had the opportunity to participate in one of these exchanges.
First, we went to Berlin on the 4th of May, which is a marvelous city. As soon as we got there, we went to the hostel to drop our things, and stayed there for a while. Then we went to a restaurant to have dinner. At first we thought about going to a German restaurant but as we walked through the city, we found only Italian restaurants. The next day we decided to go sightseeing, and we got on a bus and went to lots of different places. We saw checkpoint Charlie, which is a checkpoint that divided both federal and democratic sides of German, and also the Berlin wall, or at least parts of it. They were painted by famous artists. It was really great, even though we only ate Italian food…
As soon as we noticed it was Monday. Monday morning we caught a plane to Dusseldorf and then a train to Bocholt, our “host town”. There, we met our host families. The reception was quite nice. We met the German teacher that was “leading” the project and he gave us a warm welcome. Afterwards we went to our hosts’ houses and at night they had prepared a little dinner for us, which sound like a party. It was actually pretty good.
Tuesday morning we went to the school, the Mariengymnasium of Bocholt. Ther, each school (ours, Greek’s, Cataluña’s etc) presented something about their country, how it is to live there and a bit of their culture. The mayor went to the school to welcome us to Bocholt. Besides the presentation that we did for the other schools, we also prepared an exhibition with some posters that had information about Aveiro, Gafanha da Nazaré, Costa Nova, Barra and Lisbon and the way that our town was and still is influenced by by fish and fishing industry.. Later on we went back to our host houses, and at night the German students prepared a garden party just for the students. The teachers prepared typical food of their countries while we (students) ate pizza and fondue. We had lots of fun.
The following day, we went to the textile museum. They gave us lots of fashion and young people magazines and we had to cut the pieces of cloth and faces and put them to a board. Some boys went to play football in a park nearby. Then there was a fashion show, in which both boys and girls were dressed in historical costumes and Dr. Schmidt, a guide from the museum, explained the meaning of each costume and when it was considered fashion. Afterwards we went upstairs to have lunch. In the afternoon we went back to the school and in the gymnasium we had a dancing lesson, and then we went back to our host house. In the evening we went bowling. It was really good.
